Premier Giuseppe Conte said
during a visit to Chad on Wednesday that he intends to renew his
drive to get the European Union to do more for Africa as part of
a strategy to stem the flow of migrants.
"I'll be the ambassador of Chad and the Sahel so that they
get more attention from the EU," Conte said.
"I have repeated this many times at European Councils and I
will not tire of driving for renewal of the EU institutions.
"We have to make the Trust Fund for Africa larger. Its
resources are absolutely inadequate.
"If Europe continues with this shortsightedness, it will keep
hurting itself.
"Italy wants to change Europe so that it is stronger, fairer
and shows more solidarity".
