The political will is
lacking today to eradicate world hunger, Pope Francis said in a
message to the UN's Rome-based Food and Agriculture Organization
(FAO) on World Food Day Tuesday.
"Adequate instruments" exist to "eradicate hunger from our
world", the pope said.
But "like in other major issues that strike humanity, we
often face huge obstacles in the solution of problems, with
ineluctable barriers, the fruit of indecision or delays, with a
lack of determination by political leaders, so often immersed in
electoral interests or trapped by distorted, peremptory or
reductive opinions.
"The political will is really lacking."
